Frequently Asked Questions
What natural stone varieties does MCPM offer?
On the Portuguese side: limestones like Moleanos Claro, Moca Creme, Ataíja Azul, Ataíja Creme and Alpinina, and marbles like Estremoz Branco, Azul Valverde, Verde Viana and Brecha Santo António (over 60 varieties in total). We also keep international stone in stock: Carrara, Calacatta, Crema Marfil, Thassos, Negro Angola, Travertine and quite a few others.
Does MCPM export natural stone internationally?
Yes. We supply stone to projects across Europe and further out, particularly Moleanos limestone, Moca Creme and Alentejo marbles. For export enquiries, email geral@marmorescentral.pt or call +351 244 498 200.
What is Moleanos limestone and why is it so popular?
Moleanos is a fine-grained limestone from the Porto de Mós and Alcobaça area. Architects like it because the colour stays consistent across large surfaces, it absorbs very little water, and it cuts cleanly. It goes into a lot of facades, floors and staircases. We’re based in Porto de Mós, so we work directly with the quarries.
What is Moca Creme and where is it used?
Moca Creme comes from the Fátima and Porto de Mós area. It’s sold as marble but isn’t quite, technically speaking. The colour is that warm, consistent beige-cream you see in hotel lobbies, public buildings and high-end bathrooms. We supply it polished, honed, bush-hammered or flamed.
What Portuguese marble varieties does MCPM supply?
We carry Estremoz Branco (white with characteristic veining), Azul Valverde (blue-grey), Verde Viana (green serpentine from the north of Portugal), Brecha Santo António, Ruivina and others. If you need a specific variety, get in touch and we’ll tell you what’s available.
Can MCPM cut stone to custom sizes?
Yes. We have sawing and polishing equipment in Porto de Mós to cut stone to whatever the project needs. We work to tight tolerances. Technical data sheets are available for each stone if the project requires them.
What international stones does MCPM stock?
Alongside Portuguese stone, we stock Italian varieties (Carrara, Calacatta, Calacatta Striato, Bianco Striato), Spanish (Crema Marfil, Rojo Alicante, Amarelo Valencia), Greek (Thassos, Voulakas), African (Negro Angola, Negro Zimbabwe) and others: Golden Sahara, Verde India, Verde Guatemala, Emperador, Travertine, Negro Belga, Negro Marquina and several slates.
Where is MCPM located and is there a showroom?
We’re at Lugar Manjolo, Porto de Mós (2480-301), where most of Portugal’s stone industry is based. The showroom is on site, at the factory. To arrange a visit, call +351 244 498 200 or email geral@marmorescentral.pt.
What makes Porto de Mós a centre for natural stone in Portugal?
Porto de Mós sits on a limestone formation that’s been quarried since Roman times. That geology is where Moleanos and Moca Creme come from. Over the centuries the whole supply chain, from quarrying to cutting to export, built up around it, which is why most Portuguese stone companies ended up here.
How do I request a quote?
Use the contact form, email geral@marmorescentral.pt or call +351 244 498 200. If you include the stone variety, dimensions, quantity, finish (polished, honed, bush-hammered or flamed) and your timeline, we can get back to you faster.
What technical standards does MCPM apply to natural stone?
The stone we supply meets the applicable European EN standards. For projects that need it, we can provide technical data sheets covering compressive strength, flexural strength, water absorption, thermal expansion coefficient and slip resistance.
